Networked PIXMA TS6120 & MX922 always show offline after computer reboot

Stoshu4

I have 2 canon printers on my wireless network (TS6100 & MX920). A few months ago I started having issues that every time I reboot my computer, the printers show as offline on all of our wired and wireless devices. If I try to print a doc, the printers appear as choices in the print window but show as offline. The printers do not show up at all in control panel or device manager.

2 Windows 10 computers wired connections

2 Win 10 laptops wireless connected

3 IOS phones wireless connected

I've tried all troubleshooting that I've found online

-Rebooted both computer and printers

-Verified that printers are connected to the same network - The screens on the printers show that they are online and connected to the correct network.

-Ran windows printer troubleshooter

-Tried updating printer drivers but since the computers don't appear as devices on the network, the driver installation fails.

-Tried manually connecting the printers to the network through the printers and re-entered network password.

-Checked firewall settings in Bitdefender

-Tried reinstalling the printers as new devices

I'm probably forgetting some troubleshooting efforts since I've tried them all several times. Sometimes, after several hours, they suddenly appear as available on the network. But then the next time I reboot my computer (for unrelated reasons) they become unavailable again and I'm back to ground zero. I will appreciate any help I can get but I'm also in need of finding a solution that I won't have to repeat every time I reboot. Thanks in advance for your help

Hi Stoshu4,

Does this error happen on all of your computers?

If not, reinstall the driver.

The behavior I mentioned above happens on the Win 11 desktop.

On the Win 10 desktop, it just goes straight to "Error printing"

Whenever I try to reinstall the driver that I downloaded from Canon, it says that "The printer could not be detected on the network". I then try to detect the printer via searching by the IPv4 address with no luck.

Hi Stoshu4,

Instead of using the Canon installer, please go to the Printers window in Control Panel and install the printer using the Add Printer or Add Device button.

If you are unsure of how to do this, please use the link below:

Does Windows detect and install your printer?

Thanks Patrick but I'm confused. The instructions you linked are for installing a new printer. My printer is already installed. I removed it and then reinstalled it via the WPS button on the router. It confirmed that it was installed and in the print window of a doc it says "ready". But when trying to print a test page I got the same errors that I mentioned above.

Hi Stoshu4,

I was asking you to install the Windows driver as a test.

Please remove all installed printers and then use "Add Device" to reinstall.

Were you able to use "Add Device " in the Printers window of Control Panel to add your printer?

If so, once added, were you able to print?

Thanks Patrick. I tried that several times and again just now.

  • I unplugged printer and rebooted computer
  • Plugged printer in again
  • Tried to "add device" through control panel
    • Printer was not detected (even though the printer confirms that it is on the network
    • I added the printer manually successfully
  • Control panel shows that the printer is available and set as default printer
  • When I try to print a test page, I get "error printing"

This is the same result every time I try removing and re-adding the printer.

Greetings,

Please clarify the following. Initially you said that the printer was connected wirelessly.  In your reply above you said "plugged printer in again".

This is contradicting <<<

You need to pick one connection method and stick with it.

If you're going to connect the devices wirelessly, please log into your router. Look at the list of attached devices and verify the IP address the router has assigned to the device.  If you don't see an entry, the device is not connected and does not exist on the network.  If the device/IP is present,  open a command prompt or browser and ping or enter that IP address.

Let us know the result. You should either see replies to your ping request or see the printer's web server in your browser.

If you want to connect the devices via USB instead, let us know and we'll proceed with those steps.  Please pick one connection method.  😉

No contradiction...when I said "plugged in" I meant the power cord. I do not have the ability for a wired connection. The only method I've ever tried is wifi. As I mentioned, the printer always confirms that it is connected to the network.

The correct IP address is listed in the router devices

When I ping the IP address through a cmd prompt I get the following results

Pinging 192.168.50.159 with 32 bytes of data:
Reply from 192.168.50.249: Destination host unreachable.

Update...I was able to successfully uninstall and reinstall the printer on the Windows 10 PC and I can print to it. However, the Win 11 PC still has the same issue

Greetings,

A little progress. Good work.  👍

So something is keeping the printer from communicating with the windows 11 PC.  Is there 3rd party antivirus installed?

Are you using ISP issued hardware?  Is there another router or mesh system behind the ISP's hardware?

Computer IP is 192.168.50.249

Printer IP is 192.168.50.149

I assume SM 255.255.255.0

GW is 192.168.50.1

Ping the gateway IP address from the computer please.  Result?
