MF656Cdw scanner driver not working

tgumina

I have a imageCLASS MF656Cdw connected via wifi. On my Windows 11 laptop the device works fine. On my Windows 10 desktop, which is a very fresh Windows install, it does not.

Under device status in the device manager it says "Windows cannot start this hardware device because its configuration information (in the registry) is incomplete or damaged. (Code 19)" and in the events tab it says "Driver Management has concluded the process to add Service StillCam for Device Instance ID ROOT\CANON_MF_NETWORK\0000 with the following status: 0."

I have tried deleing the driver, rebooting, reinstalling the driver using the latest driver package from the Canon website but it always ends the same. Since it is a network device I also disabled my firewall software with no change.

Greetings,

Can you visit the MF656Cdw's support portal and let me know what drivers you're installing please?

You appear to have registry corruption with your OS which is beyond the scope of the forum.

I can make suggestions, but this appears to be a Microsoft issue, not an issue with your Canon product.

Please review the following suggestions:

I recommend assigning the printer a static IP on your network.  This is done on your router.

When troubleshooting failed or corrupt software installations, the system should be restarted (after uninstall) before attempting to rerun installer files.

It may also be helpful to download fresh copies of the installers.

If you are running third party antivirus, you may want to disable or temporarily uninstall it while troubleshooting.

Other tools that might be helpful troubleshooting your OS:

Run from powershell or an elevated command prompt.

SFC /scannow

DlSM Restore health (Google for syntax)

chkdsk c: (read-only mode)

Add /r If the system indicates errors were found in read-only mode.

Take a look at this troubleshooting tool.

I've used the utility above many times to correct registry issues with software that doesn't install or uninstall correctly.
