I have 2 computers on my network that have an error when trying to scan to my MF644CDW Printer/scanner.
It says "Cannot communicate with the scanner. The cable may be disconnected, or the scanner may be turned off. Check the scanner statue and try again. Scanner driver will be terminated."
I can print to the printer and the scanner selector software sees the printer/scanner and when I install the MF Scan utility software it sees the scanner. It works fine from other computers on my network, but not 2 of them. All windows 11 computers. I have tried everything I can think of like disabling the firewall and security settings. What could be causing this and how can I fix it?

Thank you, thank you, thank you. After months of farting around with this issue, this worked for me. CANON - WAKE UP AND SMELL THE COFFEE!

Thank you for this info. My ImageClass MF 644Cdw would not communicate with my laptop. It would act like it was scanning, but pages in the feeder would not go through and I could only scan to flash a drive. When I followed your directions, I noticed the second (duplicate) device also listed a Microsoft driver listed. Since I knew that Microsoft was causiing these scanning problems in Windows 11, I updated that driver also just in case. Everything is now working (finally).

Thx for the suggestion. I had 3 devices listed under imaging devices. I disabled all 3. In enabling them, only one gave me the option to select the canon driver. It took it took it. I then deleted the other 2 instances. Everything now works as a champ.

Dale,
I just wanted to say a big thank you for the post! Following your steps worked like a charm for me and my Canon MF656! Have a great day!

SUCCESS! I have the excellent MF462dw scanner / copier.
Note that Canon has a new helper executable "mastersetupv110.exe". Use this executable as it conveniently installs the printer, scanner, and fax drivers. It does not solve the communication error problem; however, you still need to go step by step with Dale's solution.
Follow his instructions. My Windows 11 computer showed one instance of the driver. I disabled that, then clicked on "Update" driver. Then browsed for the driver. Once I selected the MF462dw driver, and finished up, I rebooted the system, and I now had a working scanner to computer connection.
One thing noted on my system: The installer does not place an icon for the Scan Utility on the desktop. On my system I navigated to: "C:\Program Files (x86)\Canon\MF Scan Utility\". Look for the executable "MFSCANUTILITYL.exe". Right click on it | Show more options | Create Shortcut. It will place the shortcut icon on your desktop, and you're ready to roll! The MF Scan utility is a very good program. Lots of features and settings that make the scanner very useful in the office.
Thanks, Dale!
