MF Scan Utility Cannot Communicate with scanner -ImageCLASS MF644Cdw

I have 2 computers on my network that have an error when trying to scan to my MF644CDW Printer/scanner.

It says "Cannot communicate with the scanner. The cable may be disconnected, or the scanner may be turned off. Check the scanner statue and try again. Scanner driver will be terminated."

I can print to the printer and the scanner selector software sees the printer/scanner and when I install the MF Scan utility software it sees the scanner. It works fine from other computers on my network, but not 2 of them. All windows 11 computers. I have tried everything I can think of like disabling the firewall and security settings. What could be causing this and how can I fix it?

Because it's not really a solution. It did not work for me either.

While some maybe happy others aren't. Cannon just needs to switch to the way Microsoft has chosen to go and make a new driver. But, they won't because it means forcing people to buy more products which means more revenue.

I will say this, I was able to allow microsoft to install the printer and completely removed the cannon app and driver and I can now use the Windows Scan app to scan. On my older printer the scans are partially garbled, but on the newer machine the scans come out clean and that is the solution I am working with at the moment.

I can confirm that this process worked for my i-SENSYS MF750Cdw.

Crucial part is to reboot the PC in the end - even when there is no OS prompt to reboot, just do it manually.

It worked for me too. Thank You !!

That particular patch/update did not work for me. Still can't connect to scanner MF654Cdw.

I wouldn't throw darts at Canon just yet. Apparently, Microsoft broke the protocol used to communicate with wireless and USB scanners in release 24H2.

This is the way...

Holy mackerel Dale it worked!!!!!   Thank you, thank you, thank you.   If only a small organization like Canon could resolve this issue internally and we wouldn't have to rely message board solutions from our peers.

This solution worked for me.

Dale_1973,

Thank you so much!!! This worked on my MF284dw. I spent so many hours trying to figure out what was wrong before I saw your post. I have two laptops - one for work and the other for personal use. The work laptop (the newer one) worked without any problems, but my personal laptop (about 3 years old) kept showing the same error message mentioned in the original post. I even reset my laptop and re-installed printer driver and scanner software, but it did not help! I am glad it finally worked, thanks to you!
