ImageCLASS MF453dw Bonjour/mDNS not working?

I have an ImageCLASS MF453dw multifunction B/W printer at home. It looks like after the latest firmware update Bonjour/mDNS stopped working. I am looking at the services being advertised over mDNS on the printer's subnet and don't see them any longer. Has anyone here observed the same or maybe even has a solution?

Relevant configuration on the printer:

  • Wired Ethernet connection.
  • Network Settings --> IPv4 Settings --> mDNS Settings --> Use mDNS: On
  • Network Settings --> IPv6 Settings: Off
  • Network Settings --> AirPrint Settings: On

Troubleshooting steps taken:

  • Rebooted printer.
  • Toggled the relevant settings Off/On.
  • Reset network settings to factory.
  • Connected computer directly to a printer with a cable and used dns-sd (macOS) and avahi-browse (Linux) to monitor mDNS advertisements.
  • Tried to capture packets on port 5353/udp.

Results:

  • The printer does not advertise services over mDNS.
  • The printer is not discoverable by devices if it is in the sleep mode.
  • The printer is discoverable when when it is online, probably using SDP or some other discovery protocol.
  • Running the scanner software does not wake up the printer from sleep any longer.

Hello,

If the scanner works while the printer is awake, but you are unable to scan once it goes to sleep. It looks like a communication issue over the network or the settings on the printer. You can try resetting the network settings to default and then reconnecting. If you continue to have the same issue, I suggest contacting support over the phone at 1-800-652-2666.
