I just got my Ivy 2 and setting it up on my iPhone. I open the app to try to print  a photo and the app crashes. Can’t do a single thing. Very disappointed.

There are posts about the mini print ap going back years. I have not read any post with a fix for it on an Android or an Iphone. So I consulted an AI program and it came back with this:

Troubleshooting Canon Mini Print App Crashes

If the Canon Mini Print app is crashing on your iPhone, follow these steps to resolve the issue:

Update the App

  1. Check for Updates:
    • Open the App Store.
    • Search for "Canon Mini Print."
    • If an update is available, install it.

Restart Your iPhone

  • Power Off: Hold the power button until the slider appears, then slide to power off.
  • Power On: Hold the power button again until the Apple logo appears.

Reinstall the App

  • Delete the App: Press and hold the Canon Mini Print app icon until it wiggles, then tap the "X" to delete it.
  • Reinstall: Go to the App Store, search for "Canon Mini Print," and download it again.

Additional Tips

  • Ensure your iPhone is running the latest version of iOS.
  • Check your internet connection, as a weak connection can cause issues with app performance.

By following these steps, you should be able to resolve the crashing issues with the Canon Mini Print app on your iPhone. (let us hope)

Thanks. I found that too. Unfortunately I have a brand new phone (so software is updated) and I just got the printer and downloaded the app today so no updates there. I even tried using the app in a different part of the house just to edit a pic and no luck there 😔

The Canon Mini Print app frequently crashes due to memory overload when indexing large phone photo galleries.  Users on the Canon Community Forums and Reddit report that the app shuts down instantly when trying to load or search the phone's native camera roll.  Fortunately, the user community has discovered highly effective workarounds that bypass this specific bug entirely. The Ultimate Fix:  The "Share Sheet" Method.  The most reliable way to prevent the app from crashing is to never open your photo gallery from inside the Canon app. Instead, reverse the process using your phone's native Share Sheet. Open your phone's default photo app  (Apple Photos or Google Photos).  Select the photo you wish to print.  Tap the Share icon (the square with an arrow on iOS, or the interconnected dots on Android).  Select "Canon Mini Print" from your app list (you may need to tap "More"  if it is hidden). The image will automatically inject directly into the printer's editing interface, skipping the buggy gallery page entirely.  Preventative Setting: Restrict Photo Access.  If the app continues to crash upon opening, it is likely trying to pre-load your entire library in the background.  You can fix this by cutting off its automatic access:

For iOS (iPhone): Go to Settings > Privacy & Security > Photos > Canon Mini Print, and change the setting to Selected Photos or None.

For Android: Go to Settings > Apps > Canon Mini Print > Permissions > Photos and Videos, and set it to Don’t Allow.  By doing this, the app will display zero photos on its dashboard, completely eliminating the indexing lag that forces the crash. You can then safely use the "Share Sheet" method outlined above to send individual photos over one by one.  Standard Troubleshooting Steps. If the app crashes during a print job rather than while browsing photos, try these device-level steps: Clear the App Cache (Android): Go to your phone's storage settings for the app and clear the temporary cache data. Update the Printer's Firmware: Connect the printer via Bluetooth, open the side menu in the Canon Mini Print App, select Printer Settings, and tap Upgrade Check. Canon periodically pushes updates to fix stability bugs.

In addition to the fix posted above:

I can give you the exact menu names to change your photo permissions.

Here are the exact step-by-step menu pathways to change your photo permissions, depending on whether you use an iPhone or an Android device.

For iPhone (iOS)
  1. Open the system Settings app.
  2. Scroll down and tap Privacy & Security.
  3. Tap Photos.
  4. Scroll through the alphabetical list of apps and tap Mini Print.
  5. Under the Photo Library Access section, tap None.
(Alternatively, you can choose Limited Access and only check-mark 2 or 3 blank placeholder photos, which will also prevent the app from attempting to index your whole library).

For Android Devices
  1. Open your phone's system Settings app.
  2. Scroll down and tap Apps (on some devices, this may say Apps & Notifications or App Management).
  3. Tap See all apps or search directly for the application.
  4. Select Mini Print from the list.
  5. Tap Permissions.
  6. Tap Photos and Videos (on older Android versions, this is called Storage or Files and Media).
  7. Select Don't Allow.
Once these steps are completed, the Canon Mini Print App will load onto a completely blank screen instead of crashing. You can then safely open your default phone gallery, pick a picture, and use the Share menu to push it directly into the app for editing and printing.

Awesome I will try these things tomorrow. I definitely have permissions to my whole library!
