I have been frustrated by this issue also. I bought a new desktop machine and it immediately updated and installed Win11 24H2 on it. I then installed my Canon software for my printer MF750C and the MF Scan Utility would fail with the message mentioned many times in this thread.
I have installed all the latest updates and including the one Microsoft released 12/10/2024, KB5048667, but none of that made the scanner software work.
Now today I reinstalled just the drivers for the MF750C under the Imaging devices in Device Manager, and it started working, and has kept working as I think I have tested after rebooting at least 10 times today.
So bring up Device Manager, (right click on the Start Menu), expand Imaging devices, then right click your device, mine says Canon MF750C Series, (2 times). Now this part is important as I checked it twice and if you don't Disable the device first it doesn't seem to work right. So right click on the device and click Disable Device. My MF750C is listed twice here in Imaging devices, so be sure to Disable Device for both of them. Then right click on it again and select Browse my computer for drivers, then select Let me pick from a list of available drivers on my computer. Your printer/scanner should be in the list, make sure it is selected, then click Next.
Mine then came back and said Windows has successfully updated your drivers. Make sure you do this for BOTH of the devices listed there, at least if it lists two of them. Windows does say it updated the device driver. I'm not sure what it did for sure but it did something.
It doesn't say you have to, but I then rebooted my machine before I tried the software, but then the MF Scan Utility works! It has kept working for 2 days now, and after many reboots!
I don't know if this will work for everyone but so far it has worked for me. I have no ideas what made it work today. Microsoft and Canon, (and apparently HP and Brother), need to talk and get this resolved for people!
Merry Christmas!

I think your error message is different than what many other users have been receiving. But it is always worth a try to see if it fixes the problem for some folks.

I had loads of problems installing the windows 11 drivers and MF Scan utility. This was end of May 2025. I suspected, after various Google searches, that W11 24H2 was the issue. I contacted Canon UK support...and , whilst patient, they were unable to resolve the issue. They said they'd get back to me with suggestions...they did, but it was merely to reload all drivers and MF Scan ...exactly what I had done on my own and what the Canon tech guy told me to do over the phone ( which didn't work..including restricting the hub router to 2.4GHz ). I eventually came across the tip to disable imaging devices. After a LOT of messing around it now appears to scan.
Note, printing from the w11 laptop worked straight away but it was scanning via WiFi , both at the printer and via MF Scan which didn't work.
Looking at the dates when this problem first occurred ( end of 2024), it is now mid 2025 and this issue is still problematic.
I installed the windows 10 drivers and MF Scan utility on an old Dell laptop. It worked perfectly.... immediately!
p.s. registration for this site was difficult, it would not accept my usual email address, I had to use a Gmail account.

Dale,
I have tried all of this plus a dozen other things and nothing works. My printer is a canon image class mf741cdw. The so called Microsoft fix, KB5048667 didn't help. Neither did going into task manager and trying a stop and start on WIA and then rebooting the computer. Mine worked for a while and some time back just quit so I figured it must be some Microsoft update that did it. I have been running Windows 11 version 24H2 since February 2, 2025. Tried talking with Canon and got nowhere.

Have you tried uninstalling the printer and reinstalling using the latest Canon driver. In the end, that's what worked for me with my MF720C printer.

Yes, I did that and every other thing that has to do with the darn scanner. I am about ready to buy a flatbed scanner that I can hook up and use when I need to scan things in as I do a lot of that and sending copies to people on a Cobra website that I administer.

As a temporary measure you can use the W11 Windows Fax and Scan app Version 24H2.. It is installed as an optional Windows feature, so you must activate it. To activate, go to: Settings > System > Optional Features > View Features Button > Click Windows Fax and Scan Box. To use it, enter Windows Fax and Scan in the Windows search box. An icon for the utility is located in the Accessories folder in the Start Menu. The actual file executable is WFS.exe and is located in the System32 subfolder of the C:/Windows folder. Seems like an excessive amount of work for such a simple thing, but the program itself works reasonably well. When activating, it may take quite a long time, so don't get impatient.

Thanks but I have already did that and really didn't care for it. I am just going to look at a flatbed scanner that I can hook up when I am scanning things and then unhook it when I don't need it.

Why can't Canon and Microsoft get together and figure out what they did that causes it and work to fix it? Microsoft may have to make a change is their software and Canon may need to make a change in their scanner drivers to work with whatever Microsoft has messed up.
