Fix For MF Scan Utility Failures Windows 11 24H2

I have been frustrated by this issue also. I bought a new desktop machine and it immediately updated and installed Win11 24H2 on it. I then installed my Canon software for my printer MF750C and the MF Scan Utility would fail with the message mentioned many times in this thread.

I have installed all the latest updates and including the one Microsoft released 12/10/2024, KB5048667, but none of that made the scanner software work.

Now today I reinstalled just the drivers for the MF750C under the Imaging devices in Device Manager, and it started working, and has kept working as I think I have tested after rebooting at least 10 times today.

So bring up Device Manager, (right click on the Start Menu), expand Imaging devices, then right click your device, mine says Canon MF750C Series, (2 times). Now this part is important as I checked it twice and if you don't Disable the device first it doesn't seem to work right. So right click on the device and click Disable Device. My MF750C is listed twice here in Imaging devices, so be sure to Disable Device for both of them. Then right click on it again and select Browse my computer for drivers, then select Let me pick from a list of available drivers on my computer. Your printer/scanner should be in the list, make sure it is selected, then click Next.

Mine then came back and said Windows has successfully updated your drivers. Make sure you do this for BOTH of the devices listed there, at least if it lists two of them. Windows does say it updated the device driver. I'm not sure what it did for sure but it did something.

It doesn't say you have to, but I then rebooted my machine before I tried the software, but then the MF Scan Utility works! It has kept working for 2 days now, and after many reboots!

I don't know if this will work for everyone but so far it has worked for me. I have no ideas what made it work today. Microsoft and Canon, (and apparently HP and Brother), need to talk and get this resolved for people!

Merry Christmas!

Thank you Dale_1973. My existing MF453dw was not working with my new laptop. The laptop and Canon MF453dw are connected to the router wirelessly and the Canon is functioning properly.

Unfortuanately, this fix didn't work for me.  I have a MF242dw.  I never installed the software since it may have been on a DVD and my laptop doesn't use them! I downloaded the driver from the Canon website. It installed fine, other than adding another Canon MF242dw printer. Scanner would not connect via wireless. I can print from all apps on the laptop, iPhone, and iPad.  BUT I cannot scan from the printer to the laptop.  The printer display shows the laptop name, but I keep getting the error message.  I followed the process noted in your post, rebooted, but still get the error message.  I even removed the original printer and tried with the renamed MF242 and reinstalled the driver again.  No luck.  I might try with a USB cable but doubt that will help.

Thanks very much for this post. I have been racking my brain out trying to get Win 11 24H2 to work with the Canon MF Scan Utility. It seems to work fine now after I followed the instructions above. Thanks again.

Forget the MF Scan Utility altogether. Go to the Microsoft Store and install the Windows Scan app. It works very nicely, simple, and it sees USB and network scanners, no fuss or muss.  I gave up on MFSU  myself.

If you want to scan single pages in separate files, the app is okay.  However, to create a 20 page PDF in a single operation, you have to create 20 single page PDF files and then merge them into a single PDF file, which is very cumbersome and time-consuming.  If you have Adobe Acrobat (an expensive program), you can create a multi-page PDF file from a scanner with a feeder in one operation.  As an alternative, you can get PDF24 for free to do the same.  PDF24 is a very good program.  I use it all the time.

Yay!!!! It works. Thank you for millions. It took me a week until I got here and it's solved. THANKS AGAIN!

No joy here with the procedure described re-installing the drivers. But thx to Normadel and Bellmac for suggesting the use of alternatives. They both work fine 👍
