Connect a PIXMA G3260 to an iMac with both Wi-Fi and USB simultaneously

Can a Canon Pixma G3260 printer with an Apple iMac be connected with both WiFI for printing and USB hard wired for scanning without going thru a new set up each time after switching?

When I first set up the printer, I was able to print with WIFI, but not scan. I spent over an hour on the phone with Canon Tech Support, and they were unable to find a way to do it.

Recently, I needed to scan several documents. I connected the printer to the iMac (Monterey 12 OS) with a USB cable. I was able to scan what I needed. The printer sits on a table away from where the computer lives. The long USB cable runs across a walkway. It is not practical to connect this way permanently.

When I tried printing after disconnecting the USB cable, I was unable to do it. Despite seeing the printer in the print window, it would not print, just an endless search to connect.

I did the printer WIFI set up over again from scratch. It was a frustrating and time consuming process. I print more frequently than scan, but would like to have the option to do both without having to go thru the above process each time.

If anyone has any suggestions, I would appreciate your input. Thanks, in advance. Charlie

Hi,

You would just need to add the printer twice and rename the printer once it was added. When you add the printer on your Mac, the printer name should appear with USB attached to it.  Once the printer adds, change the printer name to G3200USB.

Then disconnect the printer USB cord and go back in to add printer or scanner. The printer will appear again without the USB part attached. Add the printer and then you can rename it G3200Wifi. That way when you go to scan, make sure the G3200USB is listed and when you want to print, make sure the G3200 Wifi is selected.

Hopefully, you get an answer to your inquiry.

Meanwhile, I did just the opposite with my TR7022a.  I set it up for USB (first) to run from the PC (Win10).  With the Canon app on my phone, I set it up to print from phone via WiFi.

Thanks, Arthur! That worked. The WIFI connection I had failed. I set up the USB connection first. That was painless. The WIFI was a challenge. I used 2 sources to get the set up complete.

For the USB, I used support from Canon. The link is below.

I tried to use the same instructions above on all the suggested ways for WIFI. Connections all failed.

I found a You Tube video for manual connection on the printer itself. It was cumbersome, but successful. The link is below.

I hope this information will help someone in the future that has similar set up problems.

Thanks, Charlie
