Canon PPL won't create custom paper size over 25" for Canon Pro-1000 printer

I'm trying to print long panorama prints on my Canon Pro-1000 printer (connected to Mac via USB) using Canon Professional Print & Layout (PPL). Trying to create a custom paper size of 36" x 8.5" in PPL but it limits the width to 17" and the length to 25". My understanding is that with current firmware (version 3.010) the printer is capable of printing up to 47" x 17". Why won't PPL let me create a long custom paper size?

Can you do it directly using the printer driver via your application software?
