Did you mean:

Canon MX-490 WEP Key length Inactive

CJOHN
Apprentice

I have a wireless printer here.

The wirelss LAN connection procedure works out OK, apparently. But in fact the computer and printer are not communicating,

On the network configuration page print out, it tells me "WEP Key Length inactive".

What does this mean and is there a way round this problem?

Many thanks in advance.

Greetings,

So we don't waste time trying to guess, can you tell us more about the environment and what device you are connecting the printer to?

Router model?  How it is configured.

Computer OS and version?

The printer will only connect to a 2.4Ghz wireless broadcast.  Security supported should be WEP, WPA/WPA2.

I hope you are not using hardware configured for WEP as this is not very secure.

Thank you for your reply. I really appreciate it.

The OS is Windows 10. The router is 2.4ghz. And the security is WPA2.

Hi CJOHN,

If you are using WPA for your security it is ok for the WEP key to be inactive. To see why the printer is not being connected to the computer, we would need more information from the network configuration page.

  1. Is the connection active or inactive?
  2. What is the SSID and does it match the network that your computer is connected to?
  3. What is the printer's IPv4 IP address?
  4. WHat is the signal strength?
