I don't think this is the printer itself. It appears to be a windows 11 issue, but none of their tech hints and procedures will work. The printer is connected by USB, and it appears on my client pc but it cannot be accessed, there is an error. I thought maybe someone here can offer some help.

Greetings ,
When you access the printer properties, what error message are you receiving?

Greetings,
This is a windows error, not something generated by your printer. It usually means windows is managing your printer(s) and that you already have a default printer assigned. Try turing this feature on or off and restart your system. They try to share the printer.

All standard file and print sharing options are turned on, host unit group policy edit options to use a shared printer are on (cannot edit group policy on a Windows home pc by default) as well as any registry changes. Still cannot use the printer on the Windows 11 home client. The printer is attached to a Window 11 pro pc. This apprers to be an issue that has no easy to find fix at all. Maybe a wireless printer or use a print server, or buy an ethernet printer might function, but I have an idea they will not work either if you have to set it as a shared printer as oppose to all pcs seeing it as a native printer. There are multiple complaints about this on many Windows tech help sites.

Solution sharing printer connected by USB to Windows 11 PRO, and I assume Windows 11 Home as well, network file and print sharing password must be enabled. As soon as I did that, I was able to sign on to the pc with the printer from the client pc, I was able to install the printer and it downloaded the driver from the server. All other fix attempts suggested here and on windows tech forums were unsucessfull and many of the changes suggested caused other problems in the process. Some of those problems were quite troublesome to repair, such as losing sign on to the Microsoft store. I know that seems unrelated but believe me you don't know the half of it. My event viewer filled up with warnings, and errors caused by registry changes, group policy changes and services changes that were the "fix" for this issue. Point of emphasis, this was not a Canon printer issue, it is a Windows 11 issue. I have come to the conclusion that Windows 11 is quite buggy, more than 10 is now.
