Cannot install driver for the PIXMA MX922

I have had my printer (MX922, wireless) for years and it worked with multiple laptops. I just got a new laptop (Dell XPS, windows) and the install says complete but also says that it did not install. No other info was noted. I deactivated my anti-virus software thinking that might have been the issue. I also restarted both the laptop and the printer multiple times.

Does the new laptop have an Intel/AMD processor, or is it an ARM/Snapdragon? If the latter, you are stuck. No ARM driver available.

Thanks. That's what I thought. Can you recommend a compatible printer or whete to go to get a list? Anything I've found online so far conflicts with something else. It's not very clear.

It is a very common point of confusion when moving to a new Windows 11 ARM-based computer, but the good news is that your PIXMA MX922 is compatible! You just have to skip the traditional driver downloads and use the built-in Windows setup instead.

Because ARM processors handle software differently, the "Full Driver" package on the website won't run, but Windows 11 has a "Class Driver" already inside it that works with your printer. Here is the setup guide:

USB Connection

Simply plug the USB cable from your MX922 into your computer. Windows 11 should detect the hardware and automatically configure the printer for you.

Network/Wi-Fi Connection

  1. Press the Windows Key + R, type control panel, and click OK.
  2. Select Devices and Printers. (In Windows 11, click View more devices > More devices and printer settings).
  3. Click Add a Printer and select your MX922.

Manual Setup (IPP Method)

If the printer isn't found automatically, use the Internet Printing Protocol (IPP) method:

    1. In the "Add a device" window, click The printer that I want isn't listed.
    2. Select Add a printer using an IP address or hostname and click Next.

    1. Change Device type to IPP Device and enter your printer's IP address.

  1. Click Next to finish.

That clears things up a bit, just going by the support page for the MX922 or AI search does not mention ARM processors. This page does however along with all the other Canon printers that are compatible with ARM processors

This isn't "good news"!  It's a cop-out. Windows' built-in driver does not provide all the functionality you get with a Canon driver on an Intel computer.

Is Canon really incapable of having ARM drivers written?

Does not work

I saw that page. Still not very clear because MX922 is on the page as compatible and we already know it’s not. The instruction for the windows driver install doesn’t work either. What a cluster!

Unbelievable, isn’t it????!!!!
