Problems Getting New MX920 to Work

Oh where to begin.

 

The printer appears twice in the dropdown menu. Sometimes a black icon opens in the dock. When that happens, it seems to want to print with the printer cable plugged in. Otherwise I get a "Printer not connected" message. Other times I get a gray icon, which seems to signify wireless printing. 

 

How do I tell the difference in the rolldown menu?

 

Default settings when printing from Chrome are for 4 x 6 or A4 paper, which took a while to figure out why I was getting an upper tray error message. This is annoying if it has to be reset every time.

 

And when wireless printing starts it does not always finish the job. 

 

Let's start with these issues.
