Many people turn to Youtube for videos on how to attempt to repair theU052 error. It’s great to see the comments now appearing regarding the futility of the effort. If you encounter postings or reviews regarding the U052, please always comment with your experience.
In the meanwhile, what we need from Canon is the following:
Public acknowledgement of the defect, its cause, and the impact.
A free fix from Canon. This could be a free replacement printhead, and if that doesn’t work, a replacement printer. A firmware “work-around” could also work. Spending time and money shipping printers back and forth for repair is not acceptable.
Cartridge exchange program to replace any ink cartridges that can no longer be used.

Just going to trash an MP610 now...
Tried every (useless) tricks on the net : heads cleaning in pure water for 24 hours, cleaning all contacts (heads+cartridges), every possible combination of reseating, full service reset, unplug/replug voodoo...
Dead is dead.
Between a Konica-Minolta laser costing an arm, and Canon inkjet with BIG conception error (or may be voluntary chip programming INSIDE the heads)...it is time going back to EPSON.
I had a very old "750 stylus photo" working a LOT more than any of those craps. May be HP, too ?
Don't know...but not Konica Minolta or Canon.
PS : i will check now everything is broken if there is a chip inside heads...

Count me in, too. I have a practically new MX882 that I have the same problem with. I'm trying to scan some pictures for my Nana's funeral video, but I can't do it thanks to this dang U052 error! This is beyond ridiculous!
PS - I have tried multiple print heads, too.
Super upset by this, Canon.
