Why does my camera sometimes say BUSY when taking a picture?

It means that it's still writing image files to the card and can't take another picture until it finishes. Sometimes a faster card will help. And sometimes formatting the card could help, because then the camera might not have to spend as much time finding free blocks in the card's file system.

Which camera?

 

It depends upon your camera settings, and what type of picture you took? 

 

High ISO Speed Noise Reduction may cause a delay, assuming that you have the feature enabled, and that you took a picture with a high enough ISO to engage the Noise Reduction.
