SX220 HS / Memory card error every time

Hope someone can help me here.

I have a Powershot  SX220 HS Camera. Last time on holiday, I suddenly got a 'memory card error' mention on my screen. I thought that my memory card broke and that I lost all pictures. But I did not. When I put the memory card in another camera, it still works. I keep getting the same mention with every memory card I put in the camera. I can't even format the memory card in my camera. I can not choose this option in my settings.

So, now I'm wondering: is my camera broke? Or can I fix the settings?

Let's start off with the obvious stuff.

What brand, model and capacity of card are you using?

Is it a full size SD card, or a Micro SD card with an adapter?
