Hi! I have my a Powershot SD550 and it has worked great all summer up until now. When i turn it on, the lens comes out and the camera immediately does black and it says E18 in the corner. After this the camera shuts off and the lens stays sticking out. Does anyone know how to fix this?

Thanks for letting us know what Canon product you've got. The PowerShot SD550 is an older model which we have retired. While that means that Canon USA no longer offers direct support for it, your friends here in the Canon Community are welcome to offer suggestions!
You can also speak with a Canon Upgrade Program specialist to help you score a modern replacement that would meet your current needs at a discount. You can reach them weekdays and Saturdays at 1-866-443-8002.
Hope this helps!

I just unearthed my SD550 what a great little camera it was! I would like to still use it. Even though it is retired is it still usable?

Yes, however we are unable to service the camera if it needs repairs etc... Our Community members are happy to help where they can as well!
