My Canon IXY 430F flash won't work

I feel a little powerless because my camera's flash stopped working. I thought it was the battery, so I bought a new one, but it didn't work. Changed up the settings for flash to automatically fire, but with no success. I brought my camera to countless stores trying to get it fixed. I'm not sure why this is happening, since the camera used to work.
