Forgot to add locations - is there a cure?

Hello, there

Well, I had a SX260 camera that automatically added the location of the photos via GPS.

Now I've got a SX700 that does not have a GPS but lets you use your smartphone to record the locations and via the app Camera Window transfer them to the photos in the camera.

Problem is: you have to remember to do this before transferring your pictures to the PC. 

I forgot to do that.

Is there a way to make this afterwards using the log file you have in the smartphone?

The logfile seems to be in a GPS format, but I don't know for how long it is kept in the smartphone.

Assuming you can extract the log file from your phone the software can match the times for your photos and your GPS data and assign the coordinates.

In the meantime I've found a way to solve this problem.

Fisrt of all, I've noticed that Camera Window had not kept the log - I searched for it the following day and they were not there.

However, as I allow Google to track my locations, I've found my tracks in Google Maps History. 

Exported it, and reformated the result (.klm) to .gpx via GPSBabel.

Then used a wonderful program http://www.geosetter.de/en that matched the photos with the locations. Worked like a charm.

A note: geosetter should be able to use the .klm file but something didn't work so I had to rely on GPSBabel to convert it to .gpx. I've noticed also that GPSBabel does not function when the destination folder have accents in its name. As geosetter uses GPSBabel to convert, perhaps it was this problem that made it say that it was unable to make the geotagging in my first try.
