mf236n stuck at "place the originals in the feeder"

My imageCLASS mf236n when accessed using Canon MF Scan Utility (version 1.21.0.0 7/21/2023) gets stuck at the  "place the originals in the feeder" message. The printer/scanner detects the paper being placed in the feeder with a beep. The software fails. *Everything* from Canon has been uninstalled and re-installed. Issue remains.

Hello Mmidgley,

The issue looks like it could be caused by a hardware issue or a connection issue. We would be happy to assist with the issue. To provide some feedback or some troubleshooting steps, we would need some additional information. If you could reply to this message with the information below, we can provide some assistance.

  1. Are you connecting via USB or is it over a network?
  2. Are you able to scan from the platen glass?
  3. Are you able to make copies from the document feeder?

Hello Mmidgley,

If it is working from the platen and you can use the feeder while making copies, you can try changing the scan settings and using the document option in the MF scan utility. Before using the document button in the scan utility, you can click settings in the lower right. On the left hand side, you can click on document. To the right, the settings for the document scan will appear. You can check the settings to make sure the source is set to the ADF and the save settings are set with the file name you would like and the correct save location. You can review how to change the settings using the link HERE. Once the settings have been checked, you can click ok and then click on the document scan option in the MF utility to see if it works.

The settings in the Canon MF Scan Utility are correct. It is set to use the Feeder. The situation remains precisely how I described originally. The hardware beeps to acknowledge paper is placed in the Feeder, but the software repeatedly asks for paper to be inserted. The software is broken.
