imageCLASS MF733Cdw can not find scanner and/or install scanner driver

Hello

when I try to install the recommended driver Windows 64bit] MF733Cdw/MF731Cdw MFDrivers (Generic Plus UFR II / Generic FAX / ScanGear the computer can not find the printer when told to connect USB.

Despite this error, a generic driver (Generic Plus UFR II V250)  gets installed.

I can print fine, but not use the MF Scan utility. When I try to start it, it gives error "A scanner driver supporting this software is not installed. Install it and try again"

In my device manager I can see the generic driver under printers but the printer MF732c/734C/735C is shown with an error under other devices.

I tried troubleshooting like this: https://support.usa.canon.com/kb/index?page=content&id=ART115269 or this https://hk.canon/en/support/8203942100 which seem s to be similar for the printers with no success.

Where can I get the driver for the MF733 printer (not generic one). I can not find it on the canon website. Is there another way to solve this?

Hello Mikxx,

In this situation, you can try removing any USB connections for the printer under device manager and trying a reinstall of the MF733Cdw/MF731Cdw MFDrivers from our Canon USA support site. Before installing the driver, you can remove any connections for the printer from device manager.

You can press the Windows key and the letter R key at the same time on your keyboard. In the run box that appears, you can type in devmgmt.msc and click OK. Under universal serial bus controllers, you can right click and select uninstall device for any of the USB printing support connections associated with the printer or any listings of the printer name.

Once the connections are gone, you can disconnect the printer from the computer and try installing the drivers. You can connect the USB cable again when the setup prompts the connection.

Once reconnected, you can try printing again to see if it works or if you get any specific error messages.

Same issue here, except I cannot install the driver while connected with USB, nor wifi.

My post is here: https://community.usa.canon.com/t5/Office-Printers/ImageClass-MF733CDW-unable-to-install-scanner-dri...

Has anyone had any luck resolving this on Windows 10 or 11 22H2?

If anyone else is having this issue, I found a solution.  The latest batch of Windows updates installed as of March 15, 2024.

Previously, the drivers would either never find the scanner, find the printer but would fail on scanner installation, or the Canon driver installer would flag an error aborting any installation saying the computer has an invalid IP address (the invalid IP error has been showing for the past 3 months, even doing the below, prior to the latest updates today).

Solution:

  1. Go to Start>Run> type in "control netconnections"
  2. Right-click and disable all listed connections, except for the internet/network one you are using. (You can re-enable all others after installation)
  3. Run the Canon driver setup with "Run as administrator" (right click on it and select the aforementioned)
  4. Install whatever drivers you need to run this on your network.

Confirmed working with computer wired to router, but MF733 running via WiFi, and also confirmed on other machines running on WiFi only.
