To save some time here and not have some of you ask me which printer, OS, etc, here they are:
First off, I bought this printer back in January or February of 2024. I installed it along with the programs just fine on a Windows 10 Pro PC. Printer and scanner worked via a wireless connection without issue. No firewall exceptions were necessary and I did not have to troubleshoot anything.
Fast forward 8 or 9 months. I built a new PC running Windows 11 Pro. Installed printer and scanner software. Scanner cannot communicate with the pc while trying to scan. The printer portion works just fine as I was able to print a test page. When trying to scan via the Canon MF Scan Utility (or any other software for that matter), I get the following message:
There is no cable as I use it via a wireless connection. Unless the printer came with a usb cable (I would have to check the box), I don't even have a cable to be able to print and scan via a usb cable. The printer and scanner are turned on. The scanner works as I printed a document directly from the scanner platen glass.
I'd like to know where to go from here. Why doesn't it work from my Windows 11 PC?

Thanks again.
Yes, I removed the printer and uninstalled the drivers and software. Computer was restarted and the printer, drivers and software were reinstalled. Printer was attached to a static ip port. Scan utility shows only one device. Result: Cannot communicate with the scanner.
Uninstalled my 3rd party antivirus and utility program. Result: Cannot communicate with the scanner.
Reinstalled my 3rd party antivirus and utility program. Result: Cannot communicate with the scanner.
Ran sfc /scannow. Result: no integrity violations and still cannot communicate with the scanner.
Windows scan works in all situations mentioned above.
I did not have to do any of this when I installed this printer/scanner under Windows 10. It just worked.

I'm kind of curious about the confirmation that it runs on Windows 11 24H2. With whom did you get confirmation from? Seems there are quite a few of us who are having the same issue so it is not an isolated event.

I have the exact same issue as you. And I tried all ways in the above replies, but no lucky. Still doesn't work.

I'm having the same issue with my MF743CDW. My PC is running Windows 11 24h2 with a fresh install of Windows and just the canon printer driver/scan utility. When I try to scan from the utility I get the same error. I have a Windows laptop with 23h2 installed on it and it works fine. I ran wireshark on the PC and determined that the software isn't even attempting to contact the printer when you run the scan utility and receive the error.
I have the following versions of the software installed
MF741CMFDriverV6404WP
winmfscanutilityv12102

That's interesting @jjs710. It's working on a 23H2 installation but not a 24H2 installation for you. I have never heard of Wireshark. I installed it. What exactly am I looking for to make such a determination?

If you have wireshark installed and running you will need to search for all traffic between the printer IP and the computer IP. Normally you would set a capture filter like host 10.17.1.132 && host 10.17.1.199 Those two IPs are the computer and the printer. Then wireshark will only show you traffic between those two devices. When you click scan in the MF Scan Utility you should see traffic going between those IPs

Hello, I have a similar issue with the Canon MF443dw printer. The printer is connected via LAN, and two computers running fresh installations of Windows 24H2 with the latest updates are experiencing problems. The printer itself works fine, but MF ScanGear displays a communication error.
On other computers running Windows 23H2, everything works perfectly. I have tried reinstalling the drivers from the official Canon website multiple times, and I confirmed that the scanner selector is checked.
If I attempt to scan using the Scan Utility on the computer, ScanGear shows a communication problem error. The same issue occurs when I try to initiate a scan from the printer: the printer detects the computer, but when I attempt to scan, I receive a communication error on the computer side regarding ScanGear.

I am experiencing the same issue. In our office, we have hundreds of Canon MF443dw, Canon MF453, and other MFP printers. After the Windows 24H2 update, all of them have developed a problem when scanning over the network. I tried uninstalling and reinstalling drivers, updating printer firmware, and other troubleshooting steps, but unfortunately, nothing helped. Everything works fine on Windows 11 23H2 and Windows 10; the issue is specifically with Windows 24H2.

I have spent hours on the phone with Microsoft and also Canon. I finally got a tech at Canon that said they are aware of the problem. This is NOT a Microsoft issue. Canon needs to update the drivers to work with the new version of Windows 11 24H2.

I have been working on this issue for two weeks. The issue is that Canon needs to fix the drivers for Windows 11 24H2. It works with previous versions. I just hope Canon will tell us when it is fixed. I used a work around by using Microsoft's Scan software built into Windows 11. As of 11/21/24, Canon still has not fixed the issue. One test to find out if this is the issue is to type in the search bar wiaacmgr. A window will pop up. If it shows "No friendly name", Canon still has not fixed the driver issue.
