I had to reinstall my mf656cdw. Printing works fine. Scanning from the lcd panel works, but when I select color scan, it scans as a .jpg, not a pdf.
In MF scan utility, color scan data format is set to .pdf. I checked the remote UI, also says scan is set to pdf.
Also, if I try to scan from MF Scan utility, it says it cannot communicate with the scanner, even though it's on and connected to the network. I prefer to use the lcd panel, but mentioned this just in case it is relevant.
Any help is appreciated. I use the scanner daily, so this is driving me crazy.

Okedokee - finally had a few minutes to work on this. I backed up the registry, then searched for all registry keys that referenced the non-existent printer. I deleted those keys, rebooted, and it no longer is listed in the mf scan utility🎉
I have one other issue tho, that popped up a couple of days ago - not sure if I can post here or have to start another thread. Last week, when I try to scan from the printer console, I get a message saying "connect the computer." The computer is connected and I can scan just fine from the mf utility, so the 2 machines are obviously communicating with one another. The printer has a static IP address, if that matters. I just downloaded the latest firmware and restarted the printer, but I'm still getting that message.
I cannot thank you enough for your help!

Open te MF Scan Utility, there should be a Network Scanner Settings selection somewhere in a menu (I'm using a Mac -- yours looks like Windows). If you find the Network Scanner Settings you should be able to delete what's there and re-add the Canon.

Greetings,
You are quite welcome. You deserve credit for sticking with it to the end. Good work.
The error you describe is displaying because the the scan to destination does not exist or does not have valid write permission set on the folder or destination. Add the path to the destination and the address book. Then create a folder in the directory or path specified and ensure it has proper permissions.
Here is an example from my address book

I verified that the destination folder has write permissions. I could not figure out how to make the address book changes that you suggested.
So far, it appears to just randomly disconnect. Today I rebooted my computer, and the mf scanner selector was shut down in the process. Once the computer was back up, the lcd screen wasn't finding my computer again. I launced the scanner selector, and once that was active (which, btw, you won't know unless you look for it in the system tray), the scanner found my computer. Two days ago, it couldn't find my computer, but the scanner selector was active. So who knows. Worst case, I power the printer off, then back on again, which seems to fix it. Not ideal, but I can't afford to spend any more time on this. If I have any other epiphanies on this, I will post again.
Thanks so much for your help!

Lol as soon as I sent my last reply, I checked the address book again and realized that I had just been logged in as a user and not system manager. Once I did that, I was able to add the path to the address book.
Will post again after a few days with results.

Still occassionally having the connect the computer error. I either run the scanner selector utility if it isn't running, or restart the printer. Guess I will live with it since the other issue was solved.
