Our Canon ImageClass MF644Cdw won't copy. We can print, but the copy function produces errors every time. We're prompted to shut it off, and error E-302-0001 displays. The shut down never fixes the problem.
In the copy status, the error is described as #853. In reviewing the possible causes for #853, none make any sense in copy mode. They all seem to deal with memory, document size or security settings as transmitted from a pc. The copy function should all happening at the Canon interface so those issues would not apply.
Can anyone help?

I have more info to add. It's not just the copy function that won't work. Fax also won't work and brings us to the same error E-302-0001 and the direction to shut down so the issue seems to be in the scanning of the document. #853 shows up in the report for this failed fax attempt as well.

Hello,
The error would point to a loose connection in the scanner or a problem with the hardware. If turning the printer off and on did not resolve the issue, It looks like the scanner needs service. To check your service option, you can log on to your MyCanon account or contact support at 1-800-652-2666.
