Hello:

I installed Canon software on my new laptop and when I am trying to scan, I am getting  'Cannot communicate with the scanner' error.

The printing works fine. Scanning works fine too on my other two computers, the problem is just with the new one.

I tried removing device, rebooting, reinstalling, etc., - problem still there.

Please help....

Might be helpful to tell us what computer and OS you are using.

I am using Windows 11 brand new Lenovo Ideapad with Ryzen processor and 16 MB of RAM. It is on WiFi. The printer is connected to the router with network cable. My other laptop, WiFi connected and using Windows 11 is able to use the scanner just fine.

Thanks in advance

I'm using a Mac, but this part should be similar.  When you open MF Scan Utility, and it cannot communicate with the scanner, can you find a Network Scanner Settings menu item anywhere?

Yes: I can open Setting from the MF Scan Utility screen.

If there is any printer there, delete it, and then re-add it BUT using its IP address.  If that works, set the printer to use that IP as address as status in its web UI, and in your router reserve that IP address for the printer.

I was thinking about using IP address, but I could not find the way to do that. In the Settings screen I don't see such an option neither. Sorry...

There's no option to us an IP address when you go to add a printer?

Greetings,

Its not possible to delete printers from the MF Scan Utility in Windows.  You can only de-select or change from one installed device to another.

So before we embark on removing and re-adding the device "cleanly", can we please know if you have a 3rd party virus apps installed? Something in addition to windows security?

Also, can you confirm you installed > [Windows 32bit & 64bit] MF Scan Utility Ver.1.21.0.2

Using an ethernet connection to your router is fine.

You only need two installers for windows 11.
