newly purchased mf236n printer, when attempting to scan it takes me to the confirm destination screen but does not allow me to chose an option followed by "an error occurred message" a minute later

So that the Community can help you better, we need to know exactly which operating system is running on your computer (i.e. Windows or macOS, and which version thereof) and which application you're trying to scan with.
