Scanning problems with Canon I-sensys MF 4410

I cannot get my canon printer/scanner to scan to my Windows 7 PC at all. It seems to have the relevant drivers installed as I can print ok and there are not errors listed in installed drivers.

The scanner seems to start to initialise but then the pc just freezes every time and I have to re-boot the machine.
