My computer recognizes my new printer as a scanner only

Hi,

 

I've got a brand new CANON MF634Cdw/MF632Cdw. Last night, I took it out of the box, followed all of the instructions in the quick setup guide and tried printing a document from my computer. Unfortunately, nothing was printed. I went to my control panel and checked the Devices and Printers section, only to find that my new printer was listed under Devices as a scanner. I've tried uninstalling the drivers and starting the process from scratch, but nothing seems to work.

 

Help!

We're going to need a little more information about your situation before we can offer a solution.

 

(1) How is your printer connecting to your Windows 7 computer, with a USB cable or via your network?

 

(2) Are you able to set the default printer using the steps found at this LINK?  If so, are you able to print a Windows test page?

(1) The printer is connected by USB cable. The computer is a desktop that does not possess wireless capabilities.

(2) I am not able to set my new Canon machine as the default because the computer does not recognize it as a printer. Following the steps given in the link you provided, the printer is listed under devices as a scanner and right-clicking on it gives me scanning options only. http://imgur.com/a/xjSYb

It is unusual that your computer only recognizes the scanner.  At this point, I recommend contacting us at 1-800-OK-CANON (1-800-652-2666) for further assistance.  I understand that the forum may be your preferred method of communication; however, speaking with our telephone technical support group will be very beneficial in this case
