My MB5360 is set up via wifi on the home network and I have windows 10 on all computers. After initially recognising the PC, it doesn't recognise the PC when I subsequently try to scan to either the PC or to email. Reinstalling fixes it, but for only one scan! Is there a setting that I am missing? Is this a windows 10 issue? My daughter has the same problem with her identical printer and also has windows 10 but has her printer connected via usb to her PC.

You could be running into a quirk of Windows 10. Call 1-800-OK-CANON for assistance.
Have you ever heard your Windows 10 PC "sing" a short dipsy-doodle to you? Apparently, Windows 10 will sense when a USB connected device has gone inactive for a period of time, and it will temporarily disable the driver, and makes a familiar USB disconnect, "Ka-Thunk" noise when it does so. You can frequently hear this when you haven't moved your mouse, or used your keyboard, for a few minutes. It temporarily disables the driver, so that it doesn't consume CPU time.
When the USB device becomes active again, that is when Windows 10 sings out its' "happy dance", "welcome back" tones to you. This can frequently happen when you begin using the mouse or keyboard after they have been idle for a few minutes, such as get up and go get a cup of coffee.
I think you are encountering two issues, though. One is with the Windows 10 USB port behavior, and the other is associated with using Wi-Fi enabled, networkable Canon printers that are connected wirelessly. This issue crops no matter which version of Windows you are using. The printer doesn't want to wake-up via Wi-Fi. I have heard a variety of explanations for it, ranging from the printer going to sleep to configuration issues associated with WFA2 configurations and "dualband" routers automatically switching communication frequencies..

Hi, thanks for your response. After a lot of thought and reading, I finally found something about using the IJ scan utility for setting the scanner. I had a look around in my apps and found the right Canon utility to use. This had a settings button that led to the settings for exactly what I wanted the scanner to do - send all scans as pdf's to my computer - and the machine has worked perfectly ever since. It can also be set to send all scans to email which is the setting my daughter wants to use. It looks as if you can only use the home panel on the machine for changing the settings for one use and it doesn't store those settings unless it's done through the IJ scan utility. This was a surprise as I thought what I had entered had been saved! I was surprised and perturbed that the set up instructions with the machine didn't achieve the desired result. This is the first time I have ever had a problem finding my way through the set up of a printer, whether multifunction or not. But it looks like the problems have been solved now for both my daughter and myself.
