Was able to print envelopes with no problem then all of a sudden it won't any more. Have checked the paper settings and they seem to be the same. Using the multifunction tray. Now it only prints on full size paper and won't activate the multifunction tray. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

I would try to factory default the unit to see if that resolves the issue. If it doesn't, it may need to be serviced. A call to Canon Customer Service would be in order at that point.

I have an MF743, so this may be a bit different than the MF644.
