MF4450 scan function with microsoft 10: I can't get the scanner and computer to talk to each other

I've had the printer for several years - sometimes the scan works flawlessly, other times after hitting the scan button I'm told to Connect Computer.  Usually if I re-set one or both devices I can get things to work.  Not today.  How do I get the 2 devices to talk to each other consistantly?
