I'm experiencing rapid depletion of ink cartridges in my Canon MB2720 printer. Despite infrequent use, since August last year, I've already replaced all color cartridges three times and need more now. Most of my printing is in black, so I'm unsure why the color cartridges are depleting so quickly. I'm seeking assistance before deciding whether to replace the printer altogether.

Hi. I'm having the same problem. I replaced all of the cartridges about 3 weeks ago, with Canon Brand units. Aside from printing one, initial "test" page, ALL of my printing has been done with the machine set for "Greyscale" or black and white, also with "Save Ink and Toner" selected. I'm not a heavy user, have probably printed roughly 50 to 75 pages total, in black and white only. Yet my color cartridges are all showing about 10-15% ink left now, and the black is at maybe 40%. Should be the other way around, if anything! I have not printed a single page in color, and most of what I print is fairly low density, with lots of blank space left on the page. The printer is, I'd guess, about 5 or 6 years old, has had light use and seems to function well otherwise. Running WIN 11 Home. Anyone having any ideas, I'd love to hear them.

Greetings,
Ink jets can be configured to print from the Black ink only, but in general since black is the presence of all colors, both black and color ink is used to print black or gradients.
It might be worth considering a laser printer. You'll get a much higher page yield.

Hello,
Printing items in greyscale will still use color ink. The greyscale will change any colors into shades of grey. To print the shades, it will use a mixture of the color ink.
