Grayscale scanning to PDF (as opposed to pure black-and-white) is not supported when sending scans via email or saving directly to FTP. Grayscale scanning is only available when using a connected computer. In other cases, the device converts images to black-and-white using an NTSC dithering pattern, which does not produce true grayscale and introduces visible black-and-white artifacts, the pictures are attached.
