ImageCLASS MF455dw scanning issues

JimPhil
Apprentice

After hooking up the new printer/scanner to my computer, I can scan fine when starting the scan from the MF Scan Utility on the computer. However, when I try to scan using the control box on the printer, it doesn't work and simply says an error occurred. How do I fix it? I am using a computer with Windows 11, and the printer/scanner is attached directly to it via USB.

Did you follow precisely the instructions in the user manual to about how to set it up?

I thought I did.

You may have to try again. The manual is NOT good, but the information, cryptic as it is, is there.  It sends you all over the manual to get all the info.  And the Canon implementation of the procedure is unnecessarily complex and officious.  Most printer/scanners simply invoke their scanner driver that you install on your computer to scan from the device, so you have all the same options as if you did the scan from the computer.  But with Canon you have to set up a totally separate link between the device and a shared folder, ala MS-DOS.  It's really primitive and idiotic, and it ain't easy to set up, but it does work.

OK, thanks. I'll re-visit.

Greetings,

Are you scanning to a destination?  If so, you need to have a destination folder with permissions set.
