GX4020 Rear Flat Tray not an option to print from

hacarpm

I'm trying to print to the rear flat tray from a phone and from Windows. Trying different apps / software, including Canon software, and none of them give me the option to print from the rear flat tray. The only options are to print from the cassette or the rear tray. When I put 1 sheet of cardstock in the rear flat tray and try to print from the rear tray, the printer gives me an error that I need to remove the paper from the rear flat tray. So the printer knows there's a difference between the rear tray and the rear flat tray, but I don't have the option to print from the rear flat tray. Tech support over the phone didn't know what to do and said they would call back. Can anyone on here help before I return this printer?

Hi, I posted this issue 4 months ago. Updated drivers were released 10 days ago they still do not fix the issue. I spent time on the phone with Canon tech support and I am convinced that nobody who works at Canon tech support has actually tried to print to the rear flat tray. Luckily, I fixed the problem myself or I would have returned the printer to the store months ago.

Here is the actual solution:

The only way to print to the rear flat tray that I have found is to select Other Paper --> "Paperboard" as the Media Type in the Printer Properties before printing. Selecting "card stock" will not result in printing to the rear flat tray even if selecting rear flat tray as the paper source. Only when selecting "Paperboard" will the printer notify you on the printer's screen that you need to load a sheet onto the rear flat tray.

Hello Hacarpm,

To select the rear tray, you would need the correct drivers installed on the computer and the proper media type selected. If the drivers are installed, the printer driver should have a window that matches the link HERE and you can select the paper source. We would be happy to assist with the issue. To provide some feedback or some troubleshooting steps, we would need some additional information. If you could reply to this message with the information below, we can provide some assistance. For a more immediate resolution, you can contact support over the phone at 1-800-652-2666.

  1. What version of the Windows operating system are you using on your computer and what program are you printing from?
  2. What size cardstock are you trying to print on?
