Solution 3:
Turn off the power
Open the panel
Turn on the power
Wait for print carriage to start moving to the left.
Let it go past half way
Before print carriage reaches left hand side shut the cover.
Leave the Printer turned on

Hi Rickajr, you recorded the only fix that worked for me.  I spend a couple of hours plugging and unplugging the power cord, turning off/on my MX870 printer.  I started shopping online for a new printer.  Canon Corporation recommended the Canon MX922.  I researched that printer and typically the comments were "slow, slow and slower".  I started reviewing the Brother J5520DW which also has all the bells and whistles. I took a break from researching possible new printer purchases when I came across your post.  You are teriffic.  Your recommendation that worked for you also worked for me.  I didn't have to plug and unplug the printer and wait 10 minutes or more.  Thanks again and I will document your post for my future reference. Thanks again Rickajr....

P.S. Once thing I want to mention is that Canon customer support was 5 stars in my opinion during my conversation with them.

Are you kidding about Canan Customer Support?  All I ever got from them for both my printer and for my digital camera was "Sorry, your printer/camera is out of warranty.  It will be cheaper for you to buy an new one.  We can't help ytou any further.:

This thread is 2 years old, but I just experienced the same B200 problem. Tried batteryheadbill's solution and it worked like a charm!

@batteryheadbill, you are the man.

Hey, I'm the 2nd to post in a week on this old thread and bring it back to life. 🙂  I got this error too - first time I've ever had problems with this printer and it's getting old so I am thankful for this thread to keep me from having to buy a new printer...yet.

I tried batteryheadbill's solution and kept getting the error so I tried the solution from Tom's Hardware but got the error when I tried printing 2-sided so...I tried the solution from Tom's again, went to the maintenance menu, cleaned the print head and tried printing again.  2-sided.  Success.  Not sure what combination did it but that doesn't matter as much as I am up and running again.  Thank you to everyone on this thread!  I knew there had to be a way to fix this error - sometimes (no most of the time) the consumer has better answers than the manufacturer.

In addition to "Michael Product Experts" method on page 1, I also did this method:

  • Turn off the power
  • Open the panel
  • Turn on the power
  • Wait for print carriage to start moving to the left.
  • Let it go past half way
  • Before print carriage reaches left hand side shut the cover.
  • Leave the Printer turned on

Don't know which method did the trick, I did the posted method first and this one second, but printer is working now! Thank you

What the hell!  rickajr's hint worked like a charm!

I just signed up to say THANK YOU!!!!

I have had a Canon MX860 for 6 years and absolutely LOVE it. Have had HP's in the past until this one. I got the B200 Error once previously and was able to clear with the suggestion to Open the Cover, let the Printhead go to the left then close the cover and it cleared. About a year later, got the B200 Error again and tried all of the suggestions you will see on this blog ...cleaned the printhead with warm water, installed 2 print tanks that needed replacing, pushing the on/off button several times, pressing the SCAN/COPY/FAX buttons all at once. Nothing worked, so ordered a new printhead from Amazon for around $60 and can now print again. I hope I can use this printer for several more years, but if not, I will probably purchase another Canon.
