Can't register new GX4020 printer

MJMC

Receive the following message.   SN is correct as shown on back of printer and System information on the front screen.  Item purchased through AMAZON.

"The serial number you have entered is invalid for one or more of the following reasons:

1) The serial number does not match the product you have selected (FCC ID which starts with “AZD” is often mistaken for serial number.)
2) The serial number entered indicates this product was not intended for sale in the United States and is ineligible for registration and support in the U.S.

Please verify your product model and serial number to ensure they were entered correctly."

Thanks for joining the conversation, MJMC!  Your printer's serial number should consist of four letters followed by five numbers (example: ABCD12345).  Please let us know the letter portion only of your printer's serial number and we can get an idea of what might be going on.  Please do not post the number portion of your serial number as we're trying to protect your privacy.

If this is a time-sensitive matter, click HERE search our knowledge base or find additional support options HERE.

Thanks and have a great day!

Greetings,

Of course we hope the issue you are experiencing with registration is due to entering the serial number incorrectly.

Please confirm that you purchased your printer from an authorized Canon dealer.  Amazon itself is an authorized Canon dealer, (It must say ships from and sold by Amazon), but sellers in its marketplace might not be.  Many times these sellers offer grey market items.  Grey market items are illegally imported (acquired) and are intended for sale in another country or region.  Its not usually possible to register them in the United States and therefore they do not have a warranty.  If you find this to be the case, I would suggest you return the printer and buy from an authorized Canon dealer.  Protect yourself and ensure you are receiving warranty coverage with your purchase.  This helps to discourage illegal importation of products, and protects you as a consumer.

Hi Danny:

The letter portion is:  KNWV

Thanks, MJMC! Certain models are intended for sale and use in specific countries and attempting to register such a printer outside of those countries may not be possible. Unfortunately, that might be the case here as that letter combination specifically corresponds to the Canadian version of the PIXMA GX4020. If you're attempting to register this printer through Canon USA, it won't be recognized as it isn't available here.

So if you're based here in the United States and you were sold this printer that was specifically meant only for the Canadian market, we recommend contacting your dealer to see what they may be able to do for you. And if you happen to be in Canada, please make sure you're registering the printer with Canon Canada and not Canon USA.

Hope this helps!

Okay, thanks for the speedy reply.
