EOS R Autofocus not as fast or accurate as I expected

Struggling with the autofocus on my canon camera

I keep hearing how amazing the autofocus is on Canon cameras, but I feel like I’m not getting the results others rave about. I’m using the Canon EOS R, and while it does work, it’s not as fast or accurate as I expected, especially in lower light.

Has anyone else had issues with autofocus? Are there certain settings or tweaks I might be missing? Would love some tips on how to really get the best out of it!

What you have to remember is the EOS R was released in 2018. It also uses the same image sensor as the EOS 5D Mark IV. Technology has greatly improved from then to now. What are you trying to focus on. What are the ambient lighting conditions like.

Try some (youtube) tutorials, just google canon R tutorials. The R was the first Canon mirrorless and,  while a good camera, not known for it's fast autofocus.

Greetings ,

What lens or lenses are you shooting with?

If you are using EF lenses, are they Canon brand and is the adapter Canon also?

Tell us more about your shooting conditions please?

Welcome to the forums.

What lens(es) are you using that is causing slow focusing?  The camera doesn’t really control how fast a lens focuses.
