Really excellent point in my opinion Steve. I think we might say the same about photography as a whole. There are so few "right" and "wrongs" and so many "that was awesome" and "that was not so great" experiences along the way, but the journey and experiences is really the fun that keeps us enjoying it. Every now and then some of us with less skill get a great image as we learn. The better of us get more great images. But even the very best of us are known to have a failure and take an awful (well, at least what they would call awful - perhaps not everyone would) picture from time to time. And I've never know or read of a photographer that doesn't look at even some of their best photos and say "you know, I really wish I'd done X just a bit better as it would have improved the shot".
Photography for me has always been about the journey, not arriving at the destination. I'm not, nor likely ever will be, great. I just don't have the passion and commitment as I enjoy too many other hobbies and interests to ever put in the amount of work that it takes to be great. But that doesn't mean I don't love trying!
And I love the work of others who have put in the time and energy to be great as well! Their work is inspirational.
