Camera Equipment Insurance

I need some help,

Who do you use for reliable pro-consumer insurance camera gear, like a Canon R5 MKII with a Canon 50mm f/1.2 and a Canon 24-105L 2.8 lens?

I’d definitely look into a dedicated camera equipment insurance policy rather than relying only on homeowners or renters insurance. With an R5 Mark II and those L-series lenses, I’d want coverage for theft, accidental damage, and gear used outside the home.

I’d also compare the deductible and make sure the policy covers the full replacement value of the camera and lenses. Some policies have limits or exclusions for professional use, so that’s worth checking too.

If you Google camera or photography equipment insurance, you will see a multitude of companies who provide dedicated insurance for camera gear.  Many are companies who provide homeowners and auto insurance, but who also offer separate or dedicated insurance policies for gear.  I'm sure coverage varies as do prices.  I'd do research, shop prices and then look for reviews.

I have all of my camera equipment on our home policy and individually on their own riders, so meaning if something happens I do not pay the deductible - it does remove the claims free discount for a year, however keeps everything easy under one policy. I insure at replacement value regardless of what I paid or when. For me the importance is if something happens I do not want to be in a situation where I am not covered. After Covid I found this when my 24-105 f4L fell, the value was from years ago, not current so I highly recommend checking values upon renewal! 

How do you like the 24-105 f2.8L is it as heavy as Ive heard?

YES, my personal experience with the 24-105 f/2.8L is that it is not a lens for a long walk; I do use the Peak slide shoulder strap to help. I purchased this lens to use on a tripod for portraits. If you can rent one, try it out for a day. I'm 78, and everyone is built differently.
