The Canon apps have a long history of nor working very well on Apple smart phones and computers. Apple updates to the Operating Systems will “break” the Canon apps 3-4 times per year. Canon is not the only company whose applications are constantly “breaking” while applications from other companies seem to continue to work just fine.
I’ve always felt that Apple does this on purpose because Apple wants you to buy their cameras, not third party cameras made by Canon or Nikon. So they make it harder to use third party cameras on their smart devices and computer.
I have attached a screenshot of an article that discusses the topic of Apple being a highly competitive camera computer. The name of the web site has been removed.

Well iOS or Android are probably the most advanced software since computer exists.
So I would be very careful before making this kind of assumption.
I'm not a native English speaker, however I would like to say that somehow I get your point, but things are probably more complex than just company A versus company B.
Also, I would like to read the article but it seems that it's not visible for me.

Key points being that Apple is not just providing capture hardware + software, it's also the chips, the AI for computational photography, the editing software, and the hardware to run it all.
This vertical integration means Apple can optimize all parts of the pipeline, something traditional “camera companies” don’t always do as underlined by the OP when citing Canon and Nikon.

Is this why my Rebel T3 EOS software is giving me a message that my EOS software is not compatible? I have a MacBook Air with Tahoe 26.5 but downloaded the software for Tahoe 26 because that was the only Tahoe available for me to download

I'm always hearing someone complain about how their apple OS/IOS gear won't work with third party products and it makes me glad that I've never purchased any apple products. I have always used Windows and have never ran into any problems working with third party products. I know people that swear by their apple products and like to brag about them for the sake of status. I never liked apple because of their proprietary policy. I rather spend my money on HP, Dell, Digital Storm, Velocity Micro, Falcon Northwest, Gateways, Eluktronics and Origin PC which are all American made (made in the USA.)
Just my 2 cents..

The EOS T3 used VERSION 2 of the EOS Utility. It became obsolete with the release of Windows 10. Win10 represented a dramatic change in Operating System security. The EIS Utility is now at version 3.
Apps could no longer directly interact directly with either the computer hardware or the OS. Users were forced to buy and install new and updated of existing software. Some older apps were able to run, but the OS would cripple itself and would use a compatibility mode.
Apple seems to be under going a similar trend with the introduction of the Apple silicon central processors.
This change has nothing to do with the original topic of this thread. The changes Apple is making is motivated by new CPU designs and software security.

I have an iPhone and a iPad and I love them. However, I will never buy a MacBook or Mac desktop because of price and the insane OS nonsense Apple does. My last desktop was a gaming PC, not that I am a gamer but because of the specs and the price. I got it from Micro Center which has an Apple store inside their building. I always, curiosity I guess, price the same desktop exact specs vs specs in each case. In the Apple store the basically same machine was three times more expensive than the PC I bought. Now we are talking figures north of $5000 grand. That's ridiculous so no Mac for me..

Hi eb,
Apple is widely recognized as a cult brand, meaning its customers show unusually strong loyalty, emotional attachment, and community identity. That’s not the same as a religious or harmful cult, but the behavioral patterns can look similar in a fun, sociological way.
Why Apple is considered a cult brand (not a cult). Several academic studies describe Apple as a cult brand, a marketing term for brands that inspire fanatic loyalty and a sense of belonging. Researchers note that Apple’s corporate mythology, origin story, and community culture contribute to its cult‑like appeal. Apple’s brand origin and the narrative around Steve Jobs help sustain this emotional connection.
Apple users often become brand advocates who defend the brand, overlook flaws, and form a distinct subculture with shared rituals and mindsets. This is classic cult‑brand behavior, not harmful, just intensely loyal.
What makes Apple feel “cultish”: Strong emotional identity. People feel Apple reflects their lifestyle and values. Community rituals: Keynotes, unboxing culture, lining up for launches. Mythology: Steve Jobs as the visionary hero. Design philosoph: Minimalism becomes a belief system. Advocacy: Users recommend Apple not just as a product, but as a worldview.
So… are Apple consumers part of a cult?Sociologically:
No — they’re not in a coercive or manipulative group. Marketing-wise:
Yes — Apple is one of the world’s strongest cult brands, and its consumers often behave like members of a passionate, identity‑driven community.
I, like you EB, always compare features and price. I always look at different brands with the same features and compare price. A good example are Android phones vs IOS Apple iphones. I dont like to pay exorbitant prices just for the label/brand-name cause I'm not into status symbols. I also don't like proprietary products.
iPhones (iOS) vs Android phones comes down to one thing: control vs freedom.
iOS gives you a tightly polished, unified experience. Android gives you customization, variety, and hardware choice. Neither is objectively “better” — but one will fit your style better. I prefer freedom 🤩
