does the ef 135 f2 is usm lens work on canon R series bodie

Hi, I want to buy an EF 135 lens, but I'm afraid it won't work well on my R8 body. This is my initial investment to start the world of professional photography. So I want to keep the cost as low as possible. Does the EF 135 f/2 lens work well on Canon R series camera bodies, especially the R8? Thank you.

Yes the lens can be adapted via the EF-RF Mount adapter. But always stick with the Canon brand adapter. 3rd Party mount adapters cause all sorts of problems. Note not all features found in the EOS R8 can be used since it’s an older lens. Features such as 12 fps or eye detect AF won’t work. Or won’t work very well. The camera will automatically limit features with unsupported lenses. Also in video mode you may notice jumps in exposure. Or the lens will snap back and forth to acquire focus. Since older lenses weren’t intended for video work. To get the most out of your camera look into the RF Mount equivalent. Also the older EF version doesn’t have IS. It was released before IS became a common feature in lenses.

What about the EF 100mm f/2.8L USM macro lens? Does it function the same as on a DSLR body when I attach it to the R8 body? Thank you.

DPAF is not compatible with EF lenses released prior to 2009. I believe that lens was released in 2010. So the lens would be capable of using the newer features found in newer series cameras. Canon does however make an RF 100mm F/2.8L Macro IS USM lens. The L version in the EF Mount has IS. The older non-IS USM version released in 2000. Replacing the original Arc Form Drive (AFD) AF motor version from 1990. That lens has a lot of limitations such as it can only achieve 3-4 FPS in Servo AF. This is a limitation of the lens itself not the camera. Older AFD lenses AF & Stop down sequentially. Newer lenses can do both actions at the same time.

Not knowing what your photography goals are but a 135mm or 100mm FL is not going to be a good first lens choice. Both are going to be difficult to live with for most photography work. What is your line of interest?

Thank you for the nest. Currently I am photographing documentation of running and football events, actually in general I like all types of photography, because this is my hobby. Including wildlife, landscape, street photography and others. Currently I use the EF sigma 150-600 f5-6.3 lens for work. Previously I used a Canon 60D DSLR but I wanted to make money from photography so I invested in the R8 body to produce good images because of the speed of autofocus and continuous shooting for sports photography. But some people I photograph ask for more bokeh, so I am looking for a telephoto lens with a low F to produce the bokeh that my clients want.

Still doesn't make good sense. If it is portraits you will have to be a fair distance away from the subject if you are using a 135mil lens. I am getting the feeling you may need to do a little more learning about specific photography fundamentals before you buy a lens.

Buying a newer camera by itself will not make you 'money' in photography.
