Hello, we are making a camera purchase or upgrade in the first quarter of 2026. Originally we are looking at the R5MKII although the new R6MKIII is catching our attention. The camera will be primarily used for editorial style photography using flash or strobe lights. We would also like to use the new camera as an additional video camera from time to time, though photography is it's main purpose. For video, the open gate of the R6MKII, although nice, is not something we would use. The maximum sysc speed of 1/320 in Electronic 1st curtain of the R6MKIII would maybe be more interesting to me. I also know the BSI stacked sensor of the R5MKII is good for eliminating rolling shutter, although we will not be shooting sports or wildlife. We do have the budget for the R5MKII though I would like to purchase the better camera for editorial, product and portrait photography that can shoot reliable 4K video on the side.

Either camera would help you to meet your needs, as both are more than capable for still photography of any type. Both will do 4K video, but you need to check the specs to see which is best for you, as they are different. I cannot see where rolling shutter would be a problem. I would suggest looking at the camera comparison on the Canon website and also on other sites such as B&H which may actually have more information. It might be best to go for the lower cost option and have more budget for lenses, as well as batteries and memory cards.
