Hi again-EOS Digital Rebel XS camera purchase advice

Hi everyone, last time I was here I had just started using a Canon Rebel XT... I was able to upgrade to the XTI which I absolutely loved until I dropped it on my brick porch and broke it. I found a XS in very good condition for 20 bucks on eBay and I really miss my XTI. Is the xs better? Or do I just need to learn more. Also I was able to get a small loan from a friend to buy a 100 mm to 400mm lens. I know I'm dealing with older equipment but with my XTI and my 75mm to 300mm lens I thought I was doing really well with the finished print. Thank you for any wisdom

I wouldn't recommend investing in DSLRs at this point look into the EOS R series. The DSLR lineup is a dead end and support is ending if not ended for that camera. The same thing is happening with EF & EF-S lenses and the amount of lenses is getting smaller. Also a lot of lenses are no longer supported. Mirrorless cameras greatly outperform their DSLR counterparts.

Unlike many others, I don't feel that DSLRs are dead. If you have EF/EF-S lenses, keep right on using them. But I'd recommend going newer than the XS and XTi age group. Better off going to the xxD series, starting with the 50D. More features and settings.

EF/EF-S lenses and xxD-series cameras are plentiful at the good used equipment dealers, like UsedPhotoPro.com, MPB.com, KEH.com. You get good warranties and each item has a quality rating.

Many folks are budget limited. Proven reliable DSLRs are what they need.

Some folks are real good at spending other peoples' money, often for no justifiable reason!

The OP never mentioned a budget if they did I would’ve steered them to an appropriate camera whether a DSLR or Mirrorless camera within budget.

Not explicity, but implicitly due to this statement: "I was able to get a small loan from a friend to buy a 100 mm to 400mm lens". i.e. funds are restricted.

I should have added that I have the xs 😜 who can pass up a 20 dollar Camara. I basically want to learn to do better with what I have then upgrade at some point.
