How do i use EOS webcam utility?

Sorry for the dumb heading but it really has got that bad. I won't go into the details of trying to install it (many times, different errors every time),find it on my computer after the alleged install,or find anything called "eos webcam utility" that works as a program even when it DOES install.
So lets start with the basics:
Can the EOS webcam utility actually work as a standalone program? Is that where i'm going wrong?
The how-to videos sometimes mention "your favorite webcam platform" .Must i have such a thing to make it all work?
All i want to do is see on the computer screen what my camera sees.Surely it shouldnt be this hard???!
It's a bit worrying i'm having such problems.I had similar nightmares trying to get a canon printer to work. The software was so stubbornly unworkable i gave up.To this day it still wont print pictures (it works for docs)
How does the worlds best camera maker manage to have such appallingly unreliable software?

More info: I'm aware i can connect using a HDMI cord but dont have the correct type right now.
I intent to conenct using Wi-fi rather than USB.I got everything to connect but the EOS webcam utility is apparently needed or nothing works.
The camera is an R10,the computer a desktop running Win10

Greetings Ron888,

The EOS R10 camera can only use a USB cable to connect to the computer in order to use the EOS Webcam Utility Pro application. It will not work with an HDMI cable. The original version of the EOS Webcam Utility application did not have an interface that a user can interact with. The newer version of our software, EOS Webcam Utility Pro, now provides a user interface where users can interact with the settings on the camera prior to using the camera as a webcam with their streaming applications.

You may click on the following link to download the application to your computer for your EOS R10 camera:

The following link provides more information about the EOS Webcam Utility application, which also includes a FAQ section in case you run into any issues:
