1. It typically works with Teams right away, but sometimes it doesn't and I get the error image.
2. It takes a long time, sometimes 20 minutes, for Zoom to recognize it.
Both of these are unpredictable and I haven't been able to figure out what's causing it to work / not work / take so long.
3. I'm using OS Monterey but it wasn't listed. When I installed it, it said it detected Catalina so I chose that. Could that be a source of the problem?

Yes, that could be the source of the problem.
When you start Zoom and it doesn’t detect the camera, then try turning the camera off and back on.
