EOS Webcam Utility Pro is blurry with Sequoia 15.1.1.

Hey all,

I've had a hell of a time trying to get EOS Webcam to deliver an in-focused stream when using Zoom Webinar. Everything was fine until updating to Sequoia.

It's also blurry with OBS. It's NOT blurry on Googlw Meet.

Any help, insight, and reccos are welcome.

Camera: Canon 5R
Computer: Macbook Pro M2
Mac OS: 15.1.1
EOS: 2.3a (I also tried 2.3)
Zoom OS: 6.2.11

Thanks,

David

Hi davidl1,

I need to double check one thing in your post. You mention that the image is blurry in OBS, but that it also isn't blurry in OBS. So I just need to check if the focus is blurry when you view the stream in OBS. Also what lens are you using with the camera?

One thing to double check would be the auto focus method the camera is set to use. Some of the auto focus methods will not automatically adjust focus as you move. When using the camera as a webcam we would recommend setting it to face tracking. To do that have the camera in movie mode, press the Menu button, go to the first page under the AF tab, select AF Method, and select Face Tracking (the option with the smiley face). With the camera set that way it will actively look for your face and track it. It would also be good to make sure Subject Detect is set to People. You could also turn on Eye Tracking to further help the camera track your face.

One other setting to check would be on the same page in the menu. Make sure Movie Servo AF is Enabled. That setting allows the camera to actively adjust the focus as you move.

Hazel,

Sorry about that. It's blurry with OBS but clear in Google Meetup. And the stream is blurry with all my lenses. I have all AF lenses with the adapter for the 5R.

I had face tracking, subject set to people, and eye tracking all on. That's what I always use.

As I mentioned, it was perfectly fine until the update to 15.1 and 15.1.1.

I'm not aware of any issues with the latest version of EOS Webcam Utility and OBS. Please elaborate on what resolution you're using with OBS and any other accessories you have connected to the camera or computer.

Does it make a difference if you use different USB ports on the computer and disconnect other accessories?

If you manually focus a lens, are you able to get a sharp image in OBS?

Nick2020,

I mainly use Zoom. I checked out OBS only to see if the issue was isolated to Zoom.

I don’t have any other accessories connected to the camera or the computer.

I’ve tried all three ports on my computer, and there’s no difference.

I have manually focused the lens, and it doesn’t get any sharper.

This all started happening when I updated to Mac OS 15.1, and then to 15.1.1. I also updated to 15.2 and still an issue. Prior to that, I had no problem. There have been no changes to any of my equipment, cables, or hardware.
