new R6 Mark iii losing Time & Date when chging battery

Just received our new R6 Mark iii on a cpl days ago and every time I take the battery out to charge it in the external charger, when I start it back up it's lost the time and date.

Well this isn't a big deal it is very annoying and I don't think it's necessary.

I've read where some people say to charge the battery via the camera usb, but its definitely slower

We have left the battery in the camera over night, for a couple different days and it still doesn't charge the internal capacitor/battery.

I really dont wanna send it back to Canon, but is this my only recourse?

BTW, my gosh are the pictures this thing takes amazing!!!   I've been watching advice videos on YouTube, I have so much to learn.  I wanna graduate from Auto to Manual mode soon! 😉

I agree @Wadizzle, for the most part, as it's sounds like a bad non-replaceable battery.  That said, I don't see how the camera would have passed any sort of serious QC process without the on-board battery working. So I was thinking that perhaps the internal charging circuit could be working as it is bound to be slightly different from the battery power circuit, so I just figure it doesn't hurt to try.

What he was getting at was that if he charges in the camera, the camera never loses power so it would therefor not lose the date either. He wasn't saying that it would correct the issue, but it most decidedly would help. It's actually a clever work around. Not ideal but a work around nevertheless.

not a fan of shipping back number forth if its capeable of just charging via.  I googled b4 coming here, but figured there's a ton of canon experience here and will try this first. “

I appreciate the interest.  I left it plugged in usb with battery installed 2 nights ago, then all day yesterday, and again last night today.  I have NOT reset factory defaults yet.  I plan on taking out the battery for 4 hours tonight.  I'll then see what happens!

Thanks for keeping in touch and letting us know how it's going.  I would suggest taking the battery out for just a couple minutes first.  That would tell if you if the on-board battery has totally failed.  If it retains the date/time info with that test, then try it for longer.  If it fails after a couple minutes you save yourself the trouble of a 4 hour test.
