I recently bought an EOS Rebel T5 from somebody and I'm attempting to transmit the video live to my computer, similarly to a webcam. In the past I was rather simply able to transmit data from my Canon ZR-960 using OBS Studio, but now having tried to connect 2 separate USB ports to the camera, I am having no luck in getting my computer to even detect any device at all. The cable fits, but these cables haven't been used in a long time so it is possible that they're broken in some way. Though before I go and buy more cables I would like to know what precisely is going wrong here.

dylan2,
You wrote, "I'm attempting to transmit the video live to my computer..."
I may be completely wrong, but I don't think you can transmit video live by way of the USB port. I think you have to use the HDMI port. You also mentioned 2 USB ports on your camera. Are you sure those are USB ports? I thought your camera only had one USB port.

You need an HDMI capture card. Note the T5 is not on the compatible camera list for Canon webcam utility:

The T5 is an entry camera that was not designed with hybrid use cases in mind. That means it doesn’t provide a “Clean HDMI” output for video capturing or recording.
Your best option with the T5 is to try using the EOS Webcam Utility. It should be adequate for “talking head” type of video recording and capturing. That means not needing to refocus during a recording.
